Creative History

We have assembled a history Resource Box containing objects and information to illustrate Victorian life in a lead mining area.

This valuable resource has been carefully designed as a classroom aid for the teacher before or after a school trip to Killhope. A box is yours to borrow free, for two weeks.

The contents of the box are there to be handled, tried on, discussed and enjoyed. They can be used to create a picture of the life and times of a Washerboy, his outdoor work separating galena and his family's struggle to survive on low wages. The importance of the lead mining industry in the 19th century to the infrastructure of the Victorian way of life makes it an ideal subject for comparisons with modern society. In the box the teachers pack includes new information and many suggestions of how the material can be used in class. All the written material may be photocopied.
