What can you do?
There are lots of things that you can do at home to help to create a sustainable environment, some of them will even help to save you money.
Pick up your copy of Killhope's Green Newsletter to get regular green tips to try at home.
Wildlife - Create a wildlife garden at home to encourage birds, insects and animals to thrive.
Recycle - Try to recycle when you can. You can recycle cans, paper, cardboard and even some plastic. Try composting your vegetable peelings and have a go at a wormery. You can also take your unwanted clothes and toys to your local charity shop.
Switch off - Turn off lights when you're not in the room. Also, remember that stand-by functions on TV’s, computers, etc, can use up to 25% of all your electricity so remember to turn them off at the wall.
Turn it Off - Fix all those leaky taps. Leaky hot water taps not only waste water but they waste energy heating the lost water.
Old Boilers - Replacing an old, inefficient boiler with an energy-efficient condensing model could significantly cut CO2 emissions from your home and save you between £190 and £240 per year.
Shopping - Over eight billion plastic bags are used in the UK every year. Try saying no to plastic bags and re-use old ones – or even invest in a reusable bag.
There are lots more ideas around the site plus books in the shop. You could also pay a visit to your local library for books about the environment and sustainability.
