Exhibitions 2014 

We have a major new permanent exhibition in the Visitor Centre in place for 2014.

The exhibition looks at minerals and geology, the home life of Victorian Miners, the life of the richer Mine Agents and Victorian Country Shows.

July 

6 July - Hazely Hush walks, 1.30pm. A guided tour of Killhope’s woodland environment. The hush will be explored, ancient mining techniques discovered and a chance to see our rare red squirrels. This is not a gentle stroll so stout footwear is essential.

12 July - Spar Box evening talk, 7pm - 9pm, costs £6.50. A talk on the spar boxes of Killhope - a little known folk craft closely associated with the North Pennines

29 July - Red squirrel fun, 1pm and 3pm, costs £3. Feed the squirrels in the woods and make a squirrel mask or puppet. Booking recommended.

30 July - Animal habitats and den building, 1.30 - 3.30, costs £5. Ends with hot chocolate and marshmallows. Booking recommended.

August 

August - Pond ecology, 1.30 and 3pm, costs £3.  Look for mini beasts and bugs in our ponds and river. Booking is recommended.

6 August is National Play Day, 10.30am - 4pm, with free admission to children accompanied by a paying adult (or has a valid 12 month ticket). Free fairground ride, sand and water play, paper crafts, archery and so much more.

17 August - A Victorian day out. Dressing up, fun and games. Free rides on shuggie boats.

20 August - Woodland Sculpture, 1.30pm - 3.30pm, costs £5. Session ends with hot chocolate and marshmallows. Booking is recommended.

September

17 September - Meet the Curator, 2.30pm. A talk and interactive session on conservation and preventative conservation. The talk will cover the difference between conservation and restoration and the importance of preventative conservation.

20 September - Willow / reed weaving workshop, 10.30am-2.30pm costs £25 (lunch not included).

20 September - Methodism evening talk, 7pm - 9pm, costs £6.50. Methodism in the dales.

21 September - Woodland Sculpture, 1.30pm - 3.30pm, costs £5. Session ends with hot chocolate and marshmallows. Booking is recommended.

October 

5 October - Kids Clay Sculpture, 1pm and 3pm, costs £3. Booking is recommended.

5 October - free volunteer taster day - managing woodland environments, 10.30am-4pm. Lunch and refreshments included. Please telephone to book a place.

12 October - Kids Nature Craft, 1.30pm and 3pm, costs £4. Make insect hotels to take home and help your friendly wildlife hibernate over the winter. Free to take home. Make a hedgehog hibernation hotel.

18 October - Mining History evening talk, 7pm - 9pm, costs £6.50. A talk on the development of Killhope with slides.

19 October - Woodland Sculpture, 1.30pm - 3.30pm, costs £5. Session ends with hot chocolate and marshmallows. Booking is recommended.

19 October - free volunteer taster day - heritage restoration, 10.30am-4pm. Lunch and refreshments included. Please telephone to book a place.

25 October - Twilight lantern walks, 2.30pm -5pm, costs £5.  An afternoon of magical fun. Make your own lantern and bring it for a twilight walk through our woodland. Session ends with hot chocolate and marshmallows. Booking is recommended.

25 October - free volunteer taster day - working with nature, 10.30am-4pm. Lunch and refreshments included. Please telephone to book a place.

26 October - Beginners Crochet, 10.30am-4pm, costs £40, includes lunch and refreshments.

28 and 30 October - Kids Spar Box Fun, 11am and 1pm, costs £8.00. Visit the minerals and Spar Boxes in our collection and make a spar creation of your own. All materials supplied. keep this very special folk craft alive! Booking is recommended.

31 October - Halloween at Kilhope, costs £5. A day of fun, ghoulish crafts, and spooky story walks with wonderful story teller Adam Bushnell.

November 

1 November - Campfire Fun, 1pm, costs £5. Make a campfire, woodland crafts, toast marshmallows on the fire and warm up with hot chocolate. Booking is recommended.

2 November - Kids Nature Craft,  1.30pm and 3pm, costs £4. Make insect hotels to take home and help your friendly wildlife hibernate over the winter. Free to take home. Make a hedgehog hibernation hotel. Booking is recommended.

15 and 16 November - Winter Wonderland, 11am - 4pm - Details to be confirmed.

Charges 

All charges for listed activities are in addition to normal admission prices (tickets are valid for 12 months).
