Works of art reflecting County Durham’s industrial past have gone on display at the museum that inspired them.
The pieces were all created by Jane Foale while she was artist in residence at Killhope, the North of England Lead Mining Museum.
The collection, entitled From Time to Time, will be on display at the Weardale attraction until 31 October.
Jane, who lives in West Yorkshire, visited the museum two to three times a month between January 2008 and May 2009, using her dramatic surroundings as the inspiration for her work.
“My working day often began by watching Killhope’s huge waterwheel being set in motion,” she said. “The sound of the water changing pitch and the gentle yet uncompromising movement of this graceful old machine created a rhythm that ran through my day.”
Jane left cast iron cogs and other items of machinery in pools of paint and water to create unusual effects
The cold, wet weather slowed the drying time and allowed rust, paint and other elements to react, creating interesting shapes and colours.
The finished pieces are being displayed alongside photographs, stories and sketchbooks showing how the work took shape.
