A jolly Buddha ornament bought at a County Durham museum is believed to carry around its own personal rain cloud.
A visitor to Killhope, the North of England Lead Mining Museum, bought the happy chap last year.
But since then, he claims it has never stopped raining on him.
So to rid himself of the personal storm cloud, the man has returned the ornament to the Durham County Council-run museum – by recorded delivery.
“The man rang to say he had bought one of the gifts from the museum shop when he visited last year and it has rained ever since,” said Helen Marritt, Killhope’s administrative officer.
“He sent it back to us by recorded delivery in the hope the rain would stop following him around.
“He didn’t want a refund – just some dry weather.
“The 99p ornaments sold out and this is the first we have heard of them having such an effect on the weather
“The ornament seems to be happy to be back at Killhope – he’s still smiling – but I suppose it has been a little damp lately,” she said.
