A new face has taken charge at a popular County Durham museum.
Michael Boase has been appointed as the new manager of Killhope: the North of England Lead Mining Museum.
Michael brings with him a wealth of experience, having worked for a number of public and private sector organisations both at home and abroad.
He has had an interest in mining and industrial archaeology since an early age and as a child often spent his time exploring the tin, copper and arsenic mines of Devon and Cornwall where he grew up.
After studying archaeology at university, the 49-year-old went on to gain further qualifications in agricultural planning, forestry and management.
Michael spent six years working at Leeds City Council and was most recently manager of the countryside service and historic environment and sustainability teams at Gateshead Council.
“I’ve had a passion for the environment and for industrial archaeology all my adult life so I feel very fortunate to be working at such a fascinating place and in such a wonderful environment,” he said.
“I am looking forward to sharing Killhope with our many visitors.”
