So much to see, so much to do!

Green Killhope

We’ve been working hard towards building a more sustainable environment here which is a continual process.

We’ve got a dedicated Green Team, better recycling facilities, a green newsletter and excitingly have won a gold award for Sustainable Tourism.

Three members of the Killhope team attended an amazing awards ceremony at the National Glass Centre for the North East Tourism Awards on the 19 September 2007. We all waited with baited breath to find out if we had won gold, silver or bronze in the Sustainable Toursim category and were absolutely delighted when we won gold. Killhope's manager Ian Forbes collected the award to rousing cheers. The glass trophy is now in pride of place in our reception area.

We have a vision for an amazing new visitors centre that will be built using green/sustainable materials and will use sustainable energy for our heat and power. This sustainable energy may come from both biomass resources (our woodland) and using the river for hydro power.

There are lots of things you can do to help the environment some of them will even save you money.
