A GTBS advisor came to Killhope and looked at many different aspects of the site including energy efficiency, water usage, wildlife and our purchasing policies. We were initially given a silver award in November 2006 and after working hard over the winter on the list of recommendations we were given we were assessed again in March 2007. After this assessment we were found to have improved so much we were granted the Gold Award. All the Killhope staff worked very hard for this award and everybody was delighted that we had made such a difference.

Killhope also received with great delight another gold award, this time in the North East Tourism Awards. We attended an awards ceremony at the National Glass Centre on the 19 September 2007 and discovered that we'd received a gold award in the Sustainable Tourism category.
