Wildlife

Killhope with its surrounding countryside is teaming with wildlife. There are the reservoirs where you can do pond ecology, In the woodland, you can discover who has made there home there?

Squirrel

The Killhope Woodland Improvement Project will improve the conservation value of the woods, particularly for Black Grouse and Red Squirrels, both of which are struggling to survive in England.

Existing Plantation - the trees were very close together and even though they have been thinned twice not much grows beneath their dense canopy.

Work on the Woodland - we have planted mixed native small seeded broad leaves, including downy birch, goat willow, grey willow, aider, rowan and hawthorn. They were planted in groups to give a feathered effect, leaving open ground between the groups of trees.

On a visit to Killhope you can borrow our award winning Sam Squirrels Backpacks. Especially designed for families - they guide you around the woods with lots activities to do.
