So much to see, so much to do!

UFA

Tell me...and I’ll forget.

Show me...and I’ll remember.
Let me do...and I’ll understand!.

The original vision of the University of the First Age (UFA) was created in 1999 as an ‘Open University’ that school-age, young people would choose to belong to. It currently works in partnership with 30 Local Education Authorities (LEAs) including County Durham.

The UFA is committed to developing 'Out Of Hours Learning Programmes' for young people within the home, school and community that challenge, enable, extend and encourage learning. Learning should not stop at the school gate. Learning experiences are modelled on the latest research into how the brain works.

The UFA has an unshakeable belief in the potential of all to achieve success. We learn in a variety of different ways and therefore a multi intelligence, multisensory approach to learning offers a greater range of activities to suit the breadth of students needs.

This has long been recognised at Killhope, hence the face to face interpretation of information, the emphasis on ‘hands on activities’ and learning through fun. Killhope is thrilled to be the first museum to become a UFA partner with Durham schools. Killhope has been a UFA partner since 2002.
