Creative History
We have assembled Resource Boxes containing objects and information to illustrate Victorian life in a lead mining area.
This valuable resource has been carefully designed as a classroom aid for the teacher before or after a school trip to Killhope. A box is yours to borrow free, for two weeks.
The contents of the boxes are there to be handled, tried on, discussed and enjoyed. They can be used to create a picture of the life and times of a Washerboy, his outdoor work separating galena and his family's struggle to survive on low wages. The importance of the lead mining industry in the 19th century to the infrastructure of the Victorian way of life makes it an ideal subject for comparisons with modern society. In the boxes the teachers pack includes new information and many suggestions of how the material can be used in class. All the written material may be photocopied.

Throw away your worksheets! At Killhope our staff inspire young visitors by making sure they experience the life and conditions of Victorian lead miners. On our action-packed tours there's no time for note taking. You've got work to do!
Ring us on 01388 537505 to discuss your visit. We usually give you an excellent ratio of one guide to every 14 children, and a three hour visit costs £3.50 per child (including the mine trip). Our guides are with you for the whole of that time.
Please remember to give us the written permission to allow us to put them on the world wide web.
