Go Green

Green Tourism logo

At Killhope we believe passionately in sustainability and that every little bit of 'green' effort can make a difference.  This year we will have a locally made yurt installed which will be used as a base for environmental education, as well as being available for community hire.  Even more exciting is that we will also have a composting toilet on site.  Come and check out our 'Kazubaloo'.

Killhope is working in partnership with the North Pennines AONB Peatscapes project to offer visitors the chance to offset their carbon emissions from their travel to Killhope by making a donation to the project. You can make any donation you like from as little as 1p and learn more about our local peatlands.

We are extremely proud of the green awards that we have, including the Gold award in the Green Tourism Business Scheme and a gold award in the One North East Tourism awards for Sustainable Tourism in 2007.

In the shop we have items that are locally produced or made from recycled materials.

In the cafe they use local, Fairtrade and organic produce.
