Permanent Exhibitions

The Pennine Jewels is a fantastic collection of minerals which sit along side the ‘Magnificent Minerals' exhibition. Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The National Spar Box Collection is held at Killhope. Spar boxes were a traditional art form in the North Pennines which flourished in the late 19th century.

The largest box is known as the Egglestone spar box and is a combination of fretwork and minerals. It is believed to have been made by Joseph Eggleston and was transported by horse and cart to the local shows.

Killhope is delighted to welcome tot he site Letters and Language of Lead, two new permanent artworks commissioned as part of museumaker, a pretigious natioal project. Inspired by the museum's historic features and the lives of Victroian mine worrkers , and informed by the involvement of yourn people.
